Civic Math is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership that explores how mathematics can empower young people to become informed, critical, and active citizens. By connecting mathematics with democracy, media literacy, and everyday decision-making, the project demonstrates that mathematical thinking is not only an academic skill but also an essential civic competence.
In today's data-driven world, young people are constantly exposed to statistics, algorithms, polls, and digital information. Civic Math helps them develop the ability to interpret data, recognize misinformation, and make evidence-based decisions. Through innovative non-formal education methods, the project links mathematics to real-life topics such as elections, public spending, demographics, social justice, media literacy, and democratic participation.
As the Norwegian partner, Yyouth contributes its expertise in youth participation, inclusion, civic engagement, and non-formal education. Yyouth ensures that the project's educational resources are accessible and relevant for young people with fewer opportunities, including migrants, refugees, and young people facing educational or social barriers. By involving diverse groups of young people in co-creation and pilot activities, Yyouth helps develop inclusive learning approaches that make mathematics meaningful and engaging for everyone.

Through international cooperation between organisations from
France, Belgium, Norway, Poland, and Romania,
Civic Math aims to transform mathematics into a practical tool for understanding society, strengthening critical thinking, and encouraging active democratic participation. By equipping young people with the skills to question, analyse, and interpret information, the project prepares them to navigate an increasingly complex and data-driven world with confidence.
